Nick Schwellenbach is a journalism graduate student at American University and a staff writer at the Center for Public Integrity. Previously, he was an investigator at the non-profit Project On Government Oversight, where he focused on national security-related corruption and waste. Schwellenbach was also a reporter-researcher for the Nieman Watchdog, a project of the Harvard University’s Nieman Foundation for Journalism. He represented POGO on the Steering Committee of Openthegovernment.org, a coalition of news organizations and nonprofits that challenges excessive government secrecy. He earned a bachelor’s in history with a minor in economics from the University of Texas-Austin in 2004.
