Meera Pal is on a one-year leave of absence from the Contra Costa Times newspaper in the San Francisco Bay Area, earning her masters degree in journalism at American University.
While in Washington, D.C., Meera is working with the Investigative Reporting Workshop, established by Charles Lewis and Wendell Cochran.
As a reporter for the Contra Costa Times, Meera won the Freedom of Information award from the Northern California Society of Professional Journalists and was recognized by the East Bay Press Club for her work.
She also reported from Mississippi in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
While in graduate school, Meera is looking forward to learning more about multimedia journalism.
