Winter Wonderlicious Weekend on U Street: The Aftermath
Tauren Dyson
Today, the cleanup begins but how long will it take? Walking down the sidewalks on U Street can be a challenge on certain stretches. According to some, the clean up in and around the police and fire departments, as well as many of the city buildings have been successful.
"During this effort, I think they did an outstanding job," said Reuel Williams, project manager at Motir Services, a company contracted by the city to help with snow removal efforts.
For Williams, removal throughout the city, not just on U Street, has been an around the clock endeavor. Crew member working non-stop to clear much of the sidewalk snow in front of the Reeves center
"We started with pretreating all the police stations and the city buildings since Friday," Williams said. The pretreating took close to seven hours to complete and, according to Williams, would've been completed much sooner if not for the heavy traffic.
Williams anticipates his crew finishing up their part of the city snow removal by the end of the day. However, with another storm looming, some predict more measurable snow fall will undoubtedly require additional snow removal.
But for Williams, snowfall equals windfall.
"More work for us, which means more money," Williams said, about the potential storm on Tuesday.
