The road to glory: AU Men's Basketball
Justin Cox
Had men’s basketball won their matchup Saturday against Lehigh, it would have put them in a three way-tie with Navy and Lafayette, both 5-3 in conference play and teams American has beat decidedly this season, for second place standing in the Patriot League. Instead, the Eagles, who fell to Lehigh, 77-65, are smack-dab in the middle, tied with Bucknell for fourth.
After absorbing such loss, it’s hard to say what chance the Eagles have at winning the Patriot Leagues this year and heading back to the NCAA tournament. Not only does Lehigh have a strong conference record, 6-2, compared to American’s 4-4, but their overall record is even more impressive, 15-8 to American’s 7-16.
While Vlad Moldoveanu, AU’s leading scorer, has been a tremendous help since taken off the bench this semester subsequent fulfilling the NCAA enforced probationary period for transferring from nearby George Mason, his 20 plus points Saturday was no match for Lehigh, who had three players score well into the double digits. That said, what are your predictions for AU men’s basketball this season? Do you see them making the necessary changes and taking the conference title again? Moreover, what are the changes needing to be made if American is to be successful?
