Lighting Up the National Zoo

The National Zoo is getting brighter after dark. ZooLights is back for its second annual display of giant, lit-up animals. More than 50 light sculptures rest near the grounds of their real life counter parts. This year the zoo is using light emitting diodes, which use about 90 percent less energy than traditional light bulbs. ZooLights is now open Friday to Sunday, 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The displays can be seen every night beginning Dec. 18 until Dec. 30, when ZooLights closes for the season.
